A take on death

A first encounter

The realization
A take on one’s mortality
The Night Cyclist is a short story about a cook in Colorado who commutes to work by bicycle. He’s an avid cyclist but feeling his age. He comes across a mysterious cyclist at night, and things turn messy. One interpretation of the story takes a deeper look into the story, which is about one’s mortality and the struggle to accept the fact that they are growing up. We know the narrator has made his choice at a specific turning point in the story, not mentioned for spoilers.
For the cover, I went with the theme of mortality to relate to the interpretation. As the narrator bikes towards the viewer, we see the ominous figure following closely behind him. This represents the night cyclist and the narrator’s mortality that he struggles to acknowledge. The intense usage of black, white, and a pop of red emphasizes the suspenseful nature of the story and captivates potential audiences.
