Winter Art Flurry
Tahoma High School’s Art Exhibit 2023
Tahoma High School needed a new promotional poster for their student art exhibit. The objective of this poster was to catch student’s attention, encourage them to submit art and give important details on the event. A poster and PowerPoint slides were needed to display around the school. This project had a very short deadline period and required quick turnaround.

2022 Promotional Poster
This poster suffers from several design flaws that make it difficult to read and less effective in communicating its message. The excessive use of different fonts, including highly stylized and outlined text, creates readability issues and a lack of consistency. Additionally, the overuse of colors, gradients, and neon glow effects makes the design feel cluttered rather than visually appealing. The layout lacks organization, with text scattered across the page in varying alignments, making it hard to follow the flow of information. There is also no clear visual hierarchy, causing important details like event dates and submission deadlines to get lost among competing elements. The dark background, while fitting for a winter theme, reduces contrast in some areas.
Refined Sketches
Since this poster was for a Winter art flurry event, it fit to have the poster’s aesthetic be related to winter and falling snow. Since there was a short deadline, five example posters were made to be chosen from by the client. With them varying from typographic focus, to more abstract, to more literal interpretations. Typographic hierarchy was heavily emphasized so that the posters could quickly capture passing by students who may have many other things to think about. The client decided they liked the blue snow flurry poster and the white bold typographic poster the most.
Final Product
From the choice of the client, the chosen two posters were then made into a horizontal format that could be displayed on the school’s televisions in a PowerPoint. Adapting the blue snow flurry poster was easy enough by simply adding more space with snow. However, the bold typographic poster was a bit more of a challenge to convert into its horizontal companion. More snowflakes were added to balance the white space and the event information needed to be repositioned in a way that did not crowd the poster or leave a significant space.
